our Centers in need

TROPICAL STORM HELENE MADE DEVASTATING IMPACTS ON COMMUNITIES AND FAMILIES THROUGHOUT THE SOUTHEAST US. MILLIONS OF HOMES AND SEVERAL OF OUR MEMBER CENTERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE EFFECTS OF THIS HISTORIC STORM.  WHILE WE ARE STILL GATHERING INFORMATION, WE ARE CLOSELY MONITORING THE SITUATION AND REMAIN IN CONTACT WITH OUR CENTERS AS BEST WE CAN. BELOW IS A LIST OF CENTERS IN THE STORM'S PATH as well as centers that have opened their doors to supporting the community.

  • Centers that need support

  • Government Resources

  • A Hurricane Relief Form for those who need assistance as well as those who are offering assistance

  • Centers that are offering electricity, beds, warm showers, food, and more

  • Camp Weed | Live Oak, FL

Camp Weed is okay. We have a lot of downed trees and debris. As of October 1st power is still off. There are several broken fences, roof damage in 2 buildings (so far). We're still assessing but can't complete it until the power is back on.

    Needs: Donation for clean up

  • Honey Creek | Waverly, GA

Everyone in a 300 mile radius is in the same shape we are. I'm using HC as a refugee center for people still without power/water and for people who simply need a shower. Different faces daily.... Every countty in GA (159) have reported various levels of damage... 526,000 still without power and water... many counties still have zero residents and businesses with power/water

  • Kanuga | Hendersonville, NC

Kanuga sustained substantial damage. Power is out, and roads in and out of Kanuga are now closed. Kanuga Lake Road is close to failure. We are currently closed for at least two weeks although I believe that time will expand. We are currently assessing repairs made necessary by wind, flooding, and downed trees. While damage is great, it is not catastrophic. That said we have significant damage to at least two cottages as well as the lake pavilion. Trees are down on several other buildings and several roofs are damaged from wind.

    Needs:

  • Lake Logan | Canton, NC

Massive flooding of river and lake and therefore massive reshaping of landscape [ie. loss of the athletic field above the Alpine Tower, loss of the road to our maintenance shop (we can only walk there via a cut in trail), loss of recreation storage buildings and equipment, loss of the tennis courts and fence, a massive amount of trees down in the field and in the river and lake].

We've opened a community center in our dining hall because we have a generator. The most important thing that we've been offering is hot showers.

    Needs: Donations for Clean Up

Centers offering warm showers, housing, and electricity

  • The Valle Crucis Conference Center

    Banner Elk, NC

We've opened a community center in our dining hall, because we have the generator. The most important thing that we've been offering is hot showers.

UPDATE 10/15: We are very pleased that the accommodations survived relatively unscathed throughout the storm! Power and Internet have been restored. The road between Boone and Valle Crucis is as curvy as it's ever been, but it's open and fine for travel.

NEEDS: What can you do to help the Conference Center and our mission? Go ahead and book your next retreat, and help us live up to our ministry. If you'd like to help offset the enormous loss of business because of Helene, I've listed our giving web page as well - but the crucial take-away from this is gratitude. For the wellbeing of this special place, for all of you for giving us the gift of your presence, and for the incredible kindness of thousands of helpers.

  • Camp Mikell

    Toccoa, GA

If you or someone you know have been affected by Helene and are looking for a place to stay while awaiting utility service to be restored, Mikell is available as a refuge. We have power, hot water, and our stores and gas stations are stocked.

Please reach out to Jessi or Amanda to make arrangements.

  • St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center

    Seabrook Island, SC

UPDATE 10/3: We are now pleased to be able to offer a reduced rate of $35 a night for a lodge room for anyone evacuating any location that has damage from Helene. And, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, we have scholarship assistance for folks if that reduced rate would be a hardship.

If you or someone you know has been affected by Helene and are looking for a place to stay, we are here for you.

Please reach out to us by phone at (843) 768-0429 ext. 3002 for Personal Retreats, and make sure to leave a voicemail if we do not answer at that moment.

Please note also that we are located on Seabrook Island in South Carolina (not far from Charleston).

GOD OF THE PRESENT MOMENT, GOD WHO IN JESUS STILLS THE STORM AND SOOTHES THE FRANTIC HEART; BRING HOPE AND COURAGE TO ALL AS WE WAIT IN UNCERTAINTY. BRING HOPE AND PEACE WITH WHATEVER LIES AHEAD. BRING US COURAGE TO ENDURE WHAT CANNOT BE AVOIDED. FOR YOUR WILL IS HEALTH AND WHOLENESS; YOU ARE GOD, AND WE NEED YOU.
